Fall Leaf Piles, Rake for the Houses Sake!

undefinedFalling leaves may be beautiful, something that the Smoky Mountains is known for even is all the vibrant colors Tennessee has to offer, but the leaf piles that are left behind could be a home to various  pests. There are many pests that are commonly found in leaf piles in the fall. Termites like the smell of leaves that have started to dry out and decay. These pests may be drawn to leaf piles, but they need wood to burrow into in order to make a nest. Unfortunately, leaf piles that are close to a home can encourage termites to build a nest deep within the wooden structures of the home itself.  Beetles are also common leaf pile pests. These insects generally pose no health risk, but living with a beetle infestation is an annoyance. Snakes and mice may be attracted by beetles, so it is possible for a minor pest control problem gain size quickly if not addressed.  So while raking leaves to take to the curb may seem tedious and not at all how you want to spend your sunny Saturday you may want to take the time and help avoid giving these pests an enticing hide-a-way near your home.
